The 45-year-old musician made a rare public appearance at the 2022 BET Awards on Sunday to present the Lifetime Achievement Award to boyfriend Sean "Diddy" Combs with Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds.
"How do we crown our kings? How do we value our kings?" West - whose face was fully covered in a hat, sunglasses and black mask - said on stage.
“I still go to him for advice to this day. He inspires so many of my decisions, so many of my life decisions. My girl choices," West continued, referencing his ex-wife Kim Kardashian before adding with a laugh, "Thanks for that Puff."
"You know, I took a little break. I said I just want to declare myself legally dead for a year. I just want to get out of the picture and Puff's pretty adamant, but I had to think, bro, it's like, people get amnesia. As if I should never call Puff more than once. Every one of us in this room, if Puff ever needs us, we have to jump and be there. This man has been through a lot [and] survived from stuff and broke down a lot of doors for us to stand... he broke down so many doors of classism, taste and swag. Puff, if I never told you I love you, you're my brother," West said.

It was West's first performance at an awards ceremony since the Grammy Awards banned him from performing at the ceremony in April, despite his five nominations, due to "online behavior".

In early March, West shared a music video for his single "Eazy" with The Game, in which a claymation version of Davidson, 28, appears to have been kidnapped, tied up and buried. He later took down the video.
A source told PEOPLE at the time that Kardashian was "angry" and "upset" by the music video. "She finds it way too violent and upset," the insider explained, noting that the reality star "is over it all and she wants it to stop."

Since then, Kardashian and West seem to be in a better place. On Father's Day last week, the pair had dinner with their four children: Psalm, 3, Chicago, 4, Saint, 6, and North, 9.
"We had Father's Day at the house," Kim said today. "The kids spent the day with him and then we had a big Father's Day dinner and North cooked."
"Everything is going well," added Kim, who filed for divorce from West in February 2021 after seven years of marriage.
Prior to Diddy's speech at the awards ceremony, superstar Jodeci, Mary J. Blige, Shyne, The Lox and Lil Kim, Busta Rhymes and Bryson Tiller performed alongside.

After playing a voice memo of his late ex Kim Porter, who died unexpectedly of pneumonia in 2018, Diddy performed "I'll Be Missing You" with Faith Evans and the Maverick City Choir.
"Before I go, I want to donate a million dollars to Howard University, and also I'm going to throw another million dollars at Deon Sanders and Jackson State because we should play for us," Diddy said during his acceptance speech. "Thank you all from the bottom of my heart."
Diddy founded his record label, Bad Boy, in the early 1990s, which has since grown into a hip-hop powerhouse, selling more than 100 million records worldwide.
In addition to releasing his own music, the three-time Grammy winner also has a successful clothing line and in 2013 launched REVOLT Media & TV, the first black-owned cross-platform cable music network.

"Diddy has always been a pioneering force in our community, breaking barriers, reaching unprecedented heights, breaking new ground and raising the bar for all of us in the process," BET CEO Scott Mills said in a statement. "His virtuosity is matched only by his breadth - from music to media, culture, business and philanthropy - Diddy exemplified Black Excellence. We are delighted to take this opportunity to use our largest stage to honor the extraordinary achievements of our friend Diddy. "
After the show, Diddy will host a META-powered celebratory party alongside Ciroc Premium Vodka and Deleon Tequila.
The BET Awards, which honor musicians, actors and athletes, will be streamed live from Los Angeles.
