This week the Queen attended the RHS Chelsea Flower Show to see Kate Middleton's Back to Nature garden.
Kate greeted the Queen with a quick kiss on the cheek, followed by a curtsey.
The informal greeting says a lot about Kate's status within the royal family.
When in doubt, Kate Middleton has great respect in the royal family.
The latest evidence of this are new pictures from the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. Earlier this week, the Queen attended the flower show's press day to take a tour of the Back to Nature garden that Kate helped create. Kate and her husband, Prince William, personally showed the Queen the garden.
When Elizabeth got to the garden, she and Kate shared a moment that proves the Duchess of Cambridge's status in The Firm. As Kate greeted the Queen, she leaned over to kiss her on the cheek, then curtsied (see pictures of the cheek kiss and curtsey here).
It's not just the fact that Kate gave Elizabeth a familiar kiss on the cheek that shows how much the Queen respects her daughter-in-law. It's also the order in which Kate's welcoming actions took place. Kate kissed Elizabeth on the cheek first, then curtseyed.

As royal reporters noted, the double cheek kiss might be how the royal family greets each other at private events, but it's big enough for the cameras to do. To do it before you give the queen the usual curtsey? This shows that Kate is considered in the inner circle as well as all of the Queen's blood relatives.
