Kate Middleton Reveals Her Kids Are 'Very Interested' in One of Prince William and Prince Harry's Top Passions
If you ask Kate Middleton, the Cambridge children have their heads in the clouds - and that's a good thing!
The 39-year-old Duchess of Cambridge visited the RAF's Brize Norton Air Force Base on Wednesday to thank members of teams who had helped evacuate thousands of people from Afghanistan over the past few weeks. During the visit, she heard stories from civilians and soldiers, and also shared her children's continued passion for all things aviation.
"She mentioned that her children were very interested in airplanes," Loadmaster Sergeant Mark Curtis told PEOPLE.
Royal watchers won't be entirely surprised that Prince George, 8, Princess Charlotte, 6, and Prince Louis, 3, are all enthusiastic about airplanes. After all, her father, Prince William, was a Royal Air Force Search and Rescue Captain who spent several years on the Isle of Anglesey in Wales as part of that role at the start of his marriage to Kate.

Likewise, Prince Harry is a 10-year veteran of the war in Afghanistan who has dealt with the end of decades of conflict and the Taliban's violent steps to take control of the country.
"I honor the lost and encourage survivors and families to support those affected," he said in a statement in June. “These workers risk their lives every day to make the world a safer place. This brutal act reminds us that we must show solidarity with humanitarian workers and the communities they serve. "

Military service is a sacred honor for the royals, and while Louis has not yet appeared in RAF regalia, both George and Charlotte were introduced to the world of aircraft and helicopters, including trips to Germany in 2016 and 2017 where they got up close and personal with many "iron birds".

Wing Commander Kevin Latchman, who flew three planes out of Kabul, said the opportunity to welcome Kate to base and show her the C17 Globemaster plane was "fantastic, to be honest."
He noted that Operation Pitting, which returned 15,000 evacuees to Britain (including 850 to RAF Brize Norton Air Force Base), "was a brilliant example of what we can all deliver when we all come together".
He added, "The fact that this has been recognized at the royal level is brilliant and it was nice to meet the Duchess of Cambridge, very personable and obviously very interested in what we did."

One reason the surgery hit a personal nerve for Kate may have to do with her own experience as a mother of three.
"The sight on the back of the plane was phenomenal. Lots of faces and there were so many children that half of all those flights were with children and young babies," Commander Latchman told PEOPLE. "And you know, these kids were just like our kids who got on a huge plane, they were really excited. While the adults were all relieved, shocked, and scared, and wondering what would happen next."

Loadmaster Sergeant Curtis, who was in charge of evacuating the plane, described the experience as "humiliating".
He shared: “I have two children myself and there were so many children, so babies. You could see that the adults stopped just before the ramp, turned around and realized that it was the last time they were seeing their homeland. left a single bag. And yes, it was really emotional to see it. "
