Katharine McPhee adjusts to motherhood like a pro and has great help in the form of experienced father David Foster.
The 37-year-old American Idol Alumna raves about life with newborn son Rennie David, born on February 22nd, in the latest episode of the PEOPLE Every Day podcast with presenter Janine Rubenstein.
"It's a growing family and David is great," says McPhee. "He always goes into a room and says, 'Where is my baby? Where is our baby? He wants to hold the baby and be with the baby all the time."

Rennie is the first child for McPhee (currently on Netflix's Country Comfort) and the sixth for Foster, 71, who has five daughters from previous relationships.
"Katharine McPhee and David Foster welcomed a healthy boy," their spokesman told PEOPLE when Rennie arrived. "Mom, dad and son are doing wonderfully."
McPhee is looking forward to celebrating their first Mother's Day with a change of scene. "We're actually going out of town with some friends, so we're going on a little vacation with the baby," she says.

"It was great to play something so stupid and different than I'd ever done before," says McPhee, whose previous credits include Scorpion, Smash and The House Bunny. "I've always wanted to do a comedy!"
A bonus of the format is that it gives her more flexibility to spend time with her growing family. "I'm a new mom so it's exciting to be home with the little baby," she says. (And judging from the photo above, Rennie is a huge fan of the show too!)

"This is the kind of dream show if you're a new mom and just want to be home with your family and still want a great job and a fun job, a fulfilling job," she says. "That was my favorite job, which I think I had. It's like a really cute, fun family. ... You get funny. You get creative. And you're done before three o'clock, Monday, by Thursday. "
