Kendall Jenner Posts Pictures of Agave Farmers Months After Tequila Backlash
Months after Kendall Jenner was called for cultural appropriation with the launch of her 818 tequila, she posted a selection of images showing how much she is involved in the process. The gallery includes photos of Kendall with a horse, farmers among the agave plants, and strategically placed bottles and jars of 818. The gallery ends with a clip of Jenner watching the agave cook.
The pictures could be mistaken for a full-fledged fashion shoot, especially with Jenner's hat, her braided braids, and the ornate lighting seen everywhere. In her caption, Jenner called the experience of making 818 "incredible" and noted that she loved learning about the culture and the people involved in the process (it's also indicative that comments on the post have been turned off) .
"What an incredible experience I have had so far, learning about this beautiful place, its wonderful culture and the beautiful people!" She wrote. "@ drink818 started in California ... we'll be rolling into the rest of the US all summer, watch out !!!"
RELATED: Kendall Jenner's Brand 818 Tequila Is Problematic
Jenners 818 comes from a distillery (NOM 1137) used by many brands of tequila. Although the post implies that she is closely involved in the process, many tequila experts still struggle with the celebrity tequila trend as a whole.
"Basically they just make kegs and kegs and tequila kegs, and celebrities come in and literally pick a keg. So there might be a little difference [between brands] like this one matured in French oak and this one is American Oak matured, "Lucas Assis, an LA-based tequila expert, told InStyle. “But basically it's the exact same bottle, and the celebrity just buys it, and then they just use their marketing and branding to sell it to you. What you pay for is a celebrity affiliation, not the quality of the Tequila. "
