Kevin Smith Says “It’s An Incredibly Bad Look To Cancel The Latina Batgirl Movie” After Warner Bros. Discovery Axed DC Film

Kevin Smith has spoken out against Warner Bros. Discovery scrapping the Batgirl film starring Leslie Grace. The conglomerate's move sent shockwaves through the industry, and Smith, a comic book lover and author, shared his thoughts on his YouTube series Hollywood Babble-On.
"It looks incredibly bad to cancel the Latina Batgirl movie," Smith said in the video. "I don't give a shit if the movie was an absolute damn dog - I guarantee you it wasn't. The two directors who directed this movie did a few episodes of Ms. Marvel and it was a wonderful damn show and they had more money to make Batgirl than they would have to make an episode of Ms .Marvel and so on."

Pressing for answers as to why the DC film was scrapped, David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discover, said, "We're not going to start a movie until it's finished."
Zaslav didn't comment directly on Batgirl, but gave an insight into her plans for DC movies in the years to come, adding, "Our goal is to bring Warners back and make great, high-quality movies. We can build a long-term, sustainable growth business out of DC. We don't release a film until it's finished.”
Following news that Batgirl would be shelved, the film's star took to Instagram to express her gratitude for being connected to the film.
"Querida family! Following the recent news of our film Batgirl I am proud of the love, hard work and intention that all of our incredible cast and tireless crew have put into this film over 7 months in Scotland. I feel blessed to have worked among absolute greats and made relationships throughout my life! To every Batgirl fan - THANK YOU for the love and faith that made it possible for me to take on the cloak and, as Babs put it best, "become my own fucking hero"! Batgirl for life!” Leslie Grace wrote.
