L.A. County Coronavirus Update: Public Health Officials Report Nearly 30,000 New Cases In Two Days
The ongoing coronavirus pandemic makes the Christmas season, which was once merry and bright, continues to be a time of darkness and loss as Los Angeles public health officials confirm 29,464 new Covid-19 cases in just two days.
Officials confirmed 13,185 and five deaths for Saturday and 15,538 cases and 131 deaths for Friday. There are currently 6,770 people hospitalized for Covid-19 in Los Angeles County. According to Public Health, the number of deaths reported on Saturday is low due to the delay associated with a Spectrum service outage and the Christmas break.

To date, health officials have identified a total of 672,069 Covid-19 cases in LA County and reported a total of 9,438 deaths.
The latest report comes just days after both L.A County and California passed dismal milestones this holiday season. On Tuesday, LA crossed 9,000 deaths. As of Friday, California became the first state to exceed 2 million Covid-19 cases, and its remaining intensive care capacity fell to zero nationwide.
Despite the continued spike in Covid-19 cases, which could increase in the coming weeks due to vacation travel, health officials are continuing to urge LA County to use the same strategies that have been stepped up since the pandemic began: Avoid meeting people outside of your own Household. Wear face masks properly around others and keep physical distance where possible.
Today's numbers reflect 13,185 cases reported today and 15,538 cases from yesterday, with 131 deaths reported yesterday and 5 deaths reported today
