Lakers’ Carmelo Anthony reveals teams he considered signing with in free agency
After reviving his career with the Portland Trail Blazers for the past two seasons, Carmelo Anthony has been able to be a helpful talent anywhere in the league.
Although his defensive skills began to deteriorate by the age of 37, he reached 40.9% of his 3-point attempts on nearly five attempts per game last season. Shooting is extremely valuable in the modern NBA, and Anthony has proven he can do it efficiently for a playoff-caliber team.
Anthony signed a veteran minimum one-year deal with the Los Angeles Lakers and is expected to star as the catch-and-shoot threat alongside LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook.
However, Anthony had three other teams to sign with, as revealed on the Posted Up podcast with Chris Haynes. One of them signed again with Portland:
"I sat around waiting for Portland ... I didn't want to talk to anyone yet, I'll just see what Portland does, see what happens, see what they say ... do you want? Bring me back? Do you want to continue? I made it almost like a home for myself within two years, I just felt like part of this community. "
The second team Anthony said were the New York Knicks, which he once played for seven seasons:
“New York was always there. Coming back to New York was always a story. I always told my son that when he went to high school I would be with you in a moment. The New York thing made sense. "
The third team Anthony mentioned was the Philadelphia 76ers, a team he hadn't played for:
"Philly. I went to see Philadelphia. I didn't really get the chance to really talk to Philly, but there was interest. "
Anthony was quick to mention that the New Orleans Pelicans were interested, but most of all he was glad that several teams were interested in his service again, which they didn't when he dropped out of the league a few years ago.
Now the seasoned veteran must help the Lakers win the franchise's 18th championship.
