Lakers' Green: Death threats followed missed shot
Danny Green, the Lakers' guardian, announced Sunday that he and his fiancée had received death threats after missing a shot that could have brought the NBA title back to Los Angeles.
"It's just a basketball game at the end of the day and they take their emotions out and they need someone to blame. It came down to the last game and of course I'm the easy target," said Green, an 11-year NBA -Veteran who has won championships with the San Antonio Spurs and Toronto Raptors.
Green had an open view from 25 feet in Game 5 of the NBA Finals on Friday night, but his shot missed 7.1 seconds. The Miami Heat won 111-108 and the Lakers led the best-of-seven series 3-2 in Game 6 on Sunday night.
He said his fiancée Blair Bashen made him aware of the threats coming from social media.
"Didn't worry, I didn't care, just ignore it," said Green. "I don't care about these people's opinions. Only the people in the locker room and on this list are the things that are relevant and important to me. If they are still confident and encouraged and still believe and believe in me." us, that's all that is important to me. "
Green scored eight points in 24 minutes on Friday night. During the season it averaged 41.6 percent from the 3-point range.
"Basketball wise it was a good look." Said Green. "I had more time than I realized. I should have taken more time. I probably sped it up a bit. I was a little off balance. But we took a good look at it. We had a second opportunity. We tried to come out and play again. I'll do everything I can to get that shot back. Trust me. You will do some. You will miss some. It's part of the game. I've been in this situation many times. I've got some I missed some. Unfortunately for us it was to close the series, that would have been great to win it.
"But every person who plays sports and every person who plays basketball knows that the last game doesn't matter. It's never a game."
