LaMelo Ball becomes first top-3 pick since 2013 to go scoreless in NBA debut
After making history with brother Lonzo in the NBA Draft, LaMelo Ball set a different type of story on Wednesday. On his official NBA debut, Ball finished goalless in 16 minutes, making it the first top 3 selection since 2013 to score zero on his debut, according to Elias Sports.
The most recent example was Otto Porter Jr. in Washington. The only other top 3 picks kept goalless in the past 15 seasons were Hasheem Thabeet with the Grizzlies in 2009 and Greg Oden with the Trailblazers in 2008.
On Wednesday, Ball's last statistic in those 16 minutes was zero points in five field goal attempts, three of them out of three. He also finished with three assists, two steals, one rebound, three turnovers and two fouls.
Ball was also kept goalless on his preseason debut, but distributed a handful of flashy assists and pulled 10 rebounds down to still find a way to make an impact.
