Lindsey Graham gathered with lawmakers on Joe Manchin's houseboat prior to positive COVID-19 test
Senator Lindsey Graham reportedly gathered with fellow lawmakers on Senator Joe Manchin's houseboat in Washington, D.C. last week, days before the South Carolina Republican announced a positive COVID-19 test on Monday.
Democratic Sens. Mark Kelly of Arizona and Jacky Rosen of Nevada were also among the crowd during the event, according to several outlets. All four lawmakers were fully vaccinated and none but Graham reported no positive diagnosis.
Manchin's office confirmed he received both doses, stating the West Virginia Democrat was following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines for someone exposed to COVID-19.
FULLY VACCINATED LINDSEY GRAHAM TESTED POSITIVE FOR COVID-19
Graham, 66, announced his positive diagnosis Monday and said he had mild symptoms resembling a "sinus infection," suggesting he will be quarantined for the next 10 days.
"I was just informed by the family doctor that I tested positive for COVID-19 even after the vaccination," Graham said in a statement. “I had flu-like symptoms on Saturday night and went to the doctor this morning. I have a sinus infection and I currently have mild symptoms. I'll be in quarantine for ten days. "
"I am very happy to have been vaccinated because without it I would certainly not feel as good as I do now," he added. "My symptoms would be a lot worse."
The CDC has found in the past that infections, known as breakthrough cases, are to be expected in people who have been fully vaccinated.
“COVID-19 vaccines are effective and a critical tool to bring the pandemic under control. However, no vaccines are 100% effective at preventing disease in vaccinated people, hospitalized or dying of COVID-19, "the government agency's website said.

Over the past two weeks, the United States saw positive cases increase by 149%, with hospital admissions increasing by 86% and deaths increasing by 14%. The upward trend in virus positives has resulted in a resurgence of mask requirements, vaccine requirements, and other COVID-19 protocols across the country. Much of the outbreak occurred in states such as Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, and Texas.
According to the New York Times, about 49% of people in the US have been fully vaccinated while 57% have received at least one dose. The country reached a milestone on Monday when 70% of the adult population received both syringes.
A spokesman for Graham's office referred the Washington Examiner to an earlier testimony by the Senator and made no comment on his visit to Manchin last week.
