Lions now down a head coach, all three coordinators and three top position coaches
Few NFL teams have ever seen the wear and tear on their coaches like the Lions saw before Saturday's game against the Buccaneers.
On Thanksgiving Day, Matt Patricia was the head coach of the Lions. Their offensive coordinator was Darrell Bevell. Her special team coordinator was Brayden Coombs. Their defense coordinator was Cory Undlin. Her three main defensive position coaches were defensive coach Bo Davis, defensive coach Steve Gregory and linebacker coach Ty McKenzie.
None of these trainers are with the Lions on Christmas Eve.
Patricia was fired after Lions lost on Thanksgiving. Bevell became an interim coach and sacked Coombs this week. Then Bevell had to isolate himself for COVID-19 exposure, as did Undlin, Davis, Gregory, and McKenzie.
Wide-angle receiver coach Robert Prince will serve as interim-interim head coach. Quarterbacks coach Sean Ryan will name the offensive games. Evan Rothstein, whose previous job title was “Head Coach Assistant / Research & Analysis”, will name the defensive games. Marquice Williams, assistant trainer for special teams, will take on the role of coordinator for special teams.
