Live Footage Of Sonic The Hedgehog's Infamous Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade Disaster

Anyone who's a serious fan of Sonic or Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade probably knows the 1993 event where a Sonic the Hedgehog swimmer caught in a strong wind, hit a lamppost, and injured two people. The thing is, although we knew this happened, we didn't have a surviving video of the incident.

For over two decades, every report of the crash included either photos of the deflated Sonic float lying on the floor or file recordings of it during testing. If you actually wanted to see Sonic hit a hook and come down, the footage was mysteriously missing from the internet.
No longer! Earlier this week, ABC7NY shared some archive footage of the 1997 Macy's Parade in which a cat-in-the-hat swimmer injured four spectators. And as part of that segment (spotted by @RenandStimpySon) there was file footage from the 1993 parade that clearly shows Sonic hitting a lamppost, splitting his face in two, and then falling on the crowd.

While no one was seriously injured, both a child and an off duty officer were "slightly injured". Sonic, meanwhile, has been patched and returned as a lead float in 1994.
