Liz Cheney Slaps Down Trump's Attempt To Redefine 2020 Election As 'THE BIG LIE'

Donald Trump lost the 2020 presidential election.
His refusal to acknowledge this fact, backed by his endless lies and unsubstantiated attempts to overthrow them, culminated in the deadly January 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol and Trump's subsequent second impeachment.
During the second impeachment proceedings, the property managers summed it up in one sentence that was repeated over and over again. They described it as "the big lie".
The shorthand seems to have been effective, as Trump is now trying to claim it for himself and overwrite its meaning with one he likes better - no different than the term "false news". But Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), The third-senior Republican in the House, keeps reminding him that facts matter.
"The 2020 presidential election was not stolen," Cheney tweeted Monday, about an hour after Trump issued a statement calling the legitimate 2020 election results "THE BIG LIE".
"Anyone who says it is like that is spreading THE BIG LIE," Cheney went on, imitating Trump's use of all caps. These people "are turning away from the rule of law and poisoning our democratic system," she wrote.
Cheney's comment is noteworthy given her leadership in the GOP and continued efforts to deter other Republicans from Trump's lie about the election results - which has made her an outlier in the party.
Her stance on Trump has brought her into conflict with many of her Republican counterparts, including the House GOP leader Kevin McCarthy (California).
Republicans knocked out after President Joe Biden hit Cheney with his fist along with at least 20 others in the Chamber of the House before addressing a joint congressional session last week. Cheney stood her ground and pointed to the importance of politeness in politics - even among people who disagree.
"I disagree with @JoeBiden's policies," she subsequently tweeted, "but when the President greets me in the House of Representatives, I will always respond politely, respectfully and with dignity." We are different political parties. We are not sworn enemies. We are americans. "
