"Congressman-elect Luke Letlow has been moved from St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe to the Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport Academic Medical Center in Shreveport as he continues to undergo treatment for COVID-19," said Andrew Bautsch, Letlow representative, in an explanation.
"The Letlow family deeply appreciates the medical team at St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe for their fantastic care and appreciates all the prayers and support they continue to receive," he said.
Bautsch did not go beyond the testimony of Letlow's condition.
Chancellor of the LSU Health Sciences Center G.E. Ghali said Letlow was receiving remdesivir, an antiviral drug.
"Congressman-elect Letlow is in stable condition in the intensive care unit where he is receiving remdesivir and steroids as part of his regimental therapy," said Ghali.
Letlow, R-Start, announced on Friday that he tested positive for COVID-19 and was quarantined for the first time at his home in Richland Parish.
But he was admitted to St. Francis Medical Center on Saturday as symptoms persisted and was moved to Shreveport late Tuesday evening.
Letlow won the 5th district seat with 62% of the vote on December 5th in a runoff election against Alexandria's Republican compatriot Lance Harris.
He will succeed former Chief Congressman Ralph Abraham, R-Alto, who did not seek re-election after honoring a three-term pledge.
Letlow had been Abraham's chief of staff.
The 5th District of Louisiana is the largest geographically in the state and includes 24 parishes. Alexandria and Monroe are the population centers, but the borders extend to Acadiana to include Opelousas and the Florida parishes to include Bogalusa.
