Luke Bryan Had To Tell His Angry Mother He Didn't Father Maren Morris' Baby
In Luke Bryan's case, mother didn't know best - but she heard it first.
On "Ellen" Tuesday, hostess Ellen DeGeneres joked the American Idol judge about a tabloid mix-up that led to rumors that he had fathered a child with country star Maren Morris. (Check out the clip below.)
The married Bryan burst out laughing and started a funny anecdote.
"So, I'm having coffee and my mom calls me and she says," I'm sitting here reading gossip. "I don't know how to subscribe to an online gossip anyway," he said. "And then she says," They say you fathered Maren Morris' child. "And I say," Oh my god. I don't need that today. "
Bryan forwarded the article to Morris' husband, Ryan Hurd, who happened to write his song "Waves". "And I said, 'Buddy, I think we need to talk," Bryan recalled.
Bryan had the opportunity to stifle the scuttlebutt on daytime TV forever and didn't waste it.
"I'm not the father," he said. "We can call Maury Povich or however you want to do it."
Povich, of course, is a host known for running paternity tests on his show.
Bryan got into the rumor mill when the Sun mistakenly wrote last month that Morris had taken in a child with "husband" Bryan last year, E! The sun fixed the bug.
Morris enjoyed the obvious mistake. "I think the cat is out of the pocket @lukebryan," she wrote on an Instagram story.
