Manchester United confirm release of nine players
Manchester United has confirmed that they will release nine of their academy players when their contracts expire next week.
Demetri Mitchell, Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, Ethan Hamilton, Dion McGhee, Largie Ramazani, George Tanner, Aidan Barlow, Kieran O'Hara and Alex Fojticek do not receive any new contracts, so everyone will leave the club when their contracts end on June 30 .
Eliminating players were offered a support package and were invited to the club's Carrington training base in preparation for the season to maintain their fitness as the club helped them find new clubs.
No player under the age of 19 was released because the academy refuses to leave players during the current Covid 19 period.
Of the released players, Ramazani, who made his debut against Astana in the Europa League this season, was offered a new deal, but was refused.
Goal understands that the 19-year-old has asked for more money, but his demands were seen as overkill given his current position in the squad and he asked far more than the established first team players. It is assumed that he is likely to switch to a Spanish second division team.
In addition to Ramazani, Mitchell, Borthwick-Jackson, Hamilton and O'Hara all had their first team experience at United, be it on the bench or minutes on the pitch.
The head of the academy, Nick Cox, said: "With some of the younger professionals who are ending their contracts, we are using packages so that they can return for a few months after the end of the season with financial support and a training program to help them the next level of her career.
“This club is a family and takes care of its family members. The last thing we wanted to do in this situation was to deliver bad news and release boys into the unknown. "
“We decided not to release any of the boys [under 9 to under 18]. The top priority was getting them back with a smile, and we'll look at those decisions at a different time. We have a duty to help them in this difficult time. "
The only first team player who has no contract this summer is Angel Gomes. The club has offered the midfielder a new deal, but the teenager has not yet agreed on terms and his contract expires at the end of the month.
