Mark Hamill, James Gunn, William Shatner Skewer Space Force for Ripping Off Their Franchises
Vice President Mike Pence announced on Dec. 19 that the personnel in the U.S. Forces’s Space Force division will be officially referred to as Guardians, which has led writer and director James Gunn to make some wise leaps. With Space Force's new Guardians title overlapping with Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, the filmmaker shot back the vice president on social media, writing, "Can we sue this fool?"
Look forward to this week and Star Wars legend Mark Hamill stepped on the spear of the Space Force. In response to Gunn, Hamill quipped, "So they take the 'Guardians' out of your films, they use the 'power' in our films ... then you have the gall to just steal your logo from 'Star Trek'? Let File us a three-way joint lawsuit and really nail those theft bastards! "

"Star Trek" Icon William Shatner took note of Hamill's comment but did not want to allow "Star Trek" to be merged into Space Force. "I'm sorry [Mark Hamill] and [James Gunn], but Starfleet has to suspend this because the symbol is actually an inverted Pontiac logo. Maybe General Motors is building its fleet? "
Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy franchise will continue in two upcoming projects, a proper third installment in the series (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3) and a Christmas special that will be streamed exclusively on Disney +. Gunn will begin production on his new Guardians of the Galaxy projects after wrapping his Warner Bros. comic book mast, "The Suicide Squad," recently announced by the studio, in theaters August 6th to open and stream on HBO Max. 2021.
