Martin Scorsese Unsure He Can Recapture ‘The Irishman’ Spark for ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’

Martin Scorsese was due to start producing "Killers of the Flower Moon" with Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro in March, but the pandemic postponed the film's release date for a full year. Scorsese admits to Empire Magazine that he's struggling to regain the same spark that made his previous endeavor, "The Irishman," such a rewarding experience. And yes, the pandemic is partly to blame.
"I like that people appreciate it," Scorsese told Empire as he pondered "The Irishman" a year after it was released. “That touched me very much. This Covid, this pandemic, stopped a creative process. I turned on myself. Much distraction was removed, especially in the first few months when we were locked in our homes. I have to find a way to get back to a unique creative impulse for my new film like I had for 'Irishman'. Cut away all the awards shows, all that stuff, and come back to a room with a project and I wonder if there is anything I can do again. "

"With 'Irishman' we did what I wanted to do," continued Scorsese. "Whether it's great or good or not, I don't know. I know I could see it. I mean, I have to go back and find that spark. I don't know if I can. But the pandemic has made it almost mandatory, looking for her. Because everything else is gone, normal life is no longer there. So what have you got? You have people you love, family, and you hope a creative spark, and maybe that can make for a new movie But I keep going back to "Ire". I think of "Ire". I use "Ire" as ... I've used that experience as a lesson. "
"The Irishman" received 10 Academy Award nominations earlier this year, including nominations for "Best Picture" and "Best Director." Scorsese's next attempt, Killers of the Flower Moon, is Apple-sponsored and has a budget of $ 200 million. Click here to learn more about the film's long-standing production.
