McConnell signals it's time to move past Trump 'rehash' of 2020 election

Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell said he hoped Republicans would not challenge the bitter 2020 elections again and instead focus on the flawed Biden administration to win the 2022 midterm elections.
"I think we need to talk about the future, not the past," McConnell, a Republican from Kentucky, told reporters.
“I think the American people are focused on this administration and what it is doing to the country. And I hope the 2022 elections will be a referendum on the current government's performance. No repetition of suggestions about what could have happened in 2020. "
McConnell responded to a question about former President Donald Trump, whom the National Republican Senatorial Committee invited to speak at its recent Palm Beach retreat.
McConnell has not mentioned Trump by name, but has signaled several times that he is eager to weather the 2020 elections and the bitter months that followed, culminating in the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.
Critics say Trump inspired the rioters after repeatedly claiming the election was rigged in favor of President Joe Biden. Trump continues to make the claim and is calling for further investigation into election results in some states.
Trump urges the GOP to support his election fraud theories.
"If we don't clear up the 2020 presidential election fraud (which we have thoroughly and conclusively documented), Republicans will not vote in 2022 or 2024," Trump said in a statement from his political action committee, Save America.
