Megan Fox Tried to Speak Out About Being Sexualized at Age 15 & Jimmy Kimmel's Response Was So Gross

When I think back on my feelings towards Megan Fox ten years ago, I'm not impressed. Yes, I was sufficiently fascinated (read: switched on) by her appearance in Michael Bay's Transformers, but I assumed that the actress herself was flat, unintelligent, and overly concerned about men's attention. And I couldn't have been more wrong. As it turns out, Fox tried to tell us how men in positions of power in the film industry have treated them for years, but we just didn't listen. In this new viral video clip from over a decade, Fox tells presenter Jimmy Kimmel how Transformers director Bay made her dance in a bikini and high heels for a film role when she was just 15 - and yet when Bay and his crew claimed later, Fox was "difficult". We believed her claims and ignored hers. In a post #MeToo America, this clip from 2009 is difficult to see again.
The old video from Fox's interview with Kimmel reappeared after a Twitter user shared it as an example that we hadn't taken the sexual harassment of teenage girls seriously in the past. A case that the video does well. After recent allegations of sexual misconduct with teenage girls against comedian Chris D'Elia and subsequent allegations of sexual assault against teenage idols Justin Bieber, Cole Sprouse, and Ansel Elgort, the question arises as to how predatory Behavior against teenage girls can be stopped at the top of many heads. Fox's interview shows how casually this behavior can be dismissed as "boys are boys".

Fox explains to Kimmel that she played an additional role in Bad Boys II when she first met Bay shortly after she turned 15. "They shot this club scene and they brought me in and I was wearing a stars and stripes bikini and a red cowboy hat and six inch heels," she says. "[Bay] agreed and they said 'Michael she is 15 so you can't sit at the bar and she can't have a drink in your hand' so his solution to this problem was to dance to me then leave under a waterfall that gets soaking wet. "
“When I was 15, I was in 10th grade,” she emphasizes. "It's kind of a microcosm of how Bay's mind works."

This wasn't the only criticism Fox made about Bay's behavior in 2009, a few years after the Transformers franchise began. In other interviews, the actress was referred to as "bully," "nightmare," and "like Hitler," to which the Transformers crew responded with an open letter published on Michael Bay's official website. In the letter, Fox was accused of having no talent as an actress, suggesting she had a future as a porn star, and described her as uncomfortable to work with.
The difference between these two statements? While the crew's letter had its intended impact on Fox's career, Fox's comments didn't affect the untouchable bay. Instead, Fox was punished both for her own comments and for responding to them. And when you look at Kimmel's 2009 answer to her story about Bay, it's not hard to understand why.
When Fox said that when Bay was dancing under a waterfall at the age of 15, she was a microcosm of how his mind worked, Kimmel replied, "This is really a microcosm of how all of our minds work. Some of we have the decency to suppress these thoughts and pretend they don't exist. "
When women talk about being harassed by men in power, their fellow human beings spend more energy to put themselves in their peers than in their victims. Fox has been trying to tell us for years that the way she was sexualized on screen wasn't her choice, and it's a shame that the answer - from all of us - was to make it difficult, ungrateful and naively dismiss the Hollywood realities.
At the very least, it's refreshing to see that this interview was taken differently in 2020 when Fox's treatment is recognized as a violation. We may not be able to change Fox's experience, but publicly condemning behavior like Bay's is a good place to start.
