Between her remix with Beyoncé, her hit with Cardi B and her debut album Good News, there's no rising star who has had a bigger year than Megan Thee Stallion.
But for some, from conservatives to old hip-hop icons, Megan's hot image of a girl, steel knees, and explicit lyricism has become a battle cry for misogyny. On the way to the biggest hit of the year, Megan and Cardi's ode to female pleasure "WAP" had many people clutching their pearls.
In a new interview with GQ, the Houston rapper explains why people feel threatened by women who own their bodies and are blatantly seeking pleasure.
"Some people just don't know what to do when a woman is in control and owning her own body," Meg told the magazine. “I feel like men have felt like they have sex for a long time and now women are saying,“ Hey, this is for me. I want pleasure. That's how I want it or I don't want it, "it says the hell to men. It just comes from a place of fear and uncertainty, such as why would anyone be crazy about my WAP? It belongs to me. "
Despite the haters, this Houston hottie overcame the many challenges of 2020 and received four Grammy nominations.
"I've had such a crazy year, I don't think it's completely sunk yet. Every single moment was so important and special to me," Megan told GQ to receive ... I really had no idea it was coming. Hell, your girl isn't just one Grammy nominated, it's four! It really surprised me and I'm so grateful for the recognition. "
Cardi B also recently addressed the backlash against "WAP" and accepted her Billboard Woman of the Year award.
"I'm just grateful and grateful that the song I actually released this year, namely 'WAP' with Megan Thee Stallion, was not only an amazing song that broke so many records, but it was a conversation too, I never thought it would be that big, ”she said. “It pissed off quite a few Republicans for no reason. It was just weird. "
