Megyn Kelly Slammed For Complaining About Naomi Osaka's Sports Illustrated Cover

Megyn Kelly faces violent backlash after complaining on Twitter that Naomi Osaka was featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated's 2021 Swimsuit Issue.
The former Fox News presenter tried unsuccessfully to link the tennis superstar's recent magazine appearances and her decision to retire from the French Open and Wimbledon tournaments this spring, citing the need to protect her mental health.
Kelly began by responding to a tweet from right-wing sports commentator Clay Travis that read, "Naomi Osaka has had a reality show, a Barbie, in life since she said she was too introverted to speak to the media after playing tennis called and is now on the cover of the SI swimsuit issue. "
"Let's not forget the cover of (& Interview in) Vogue Japan and Time Mag!" Kelly replied, referring to Osaka's appearances on the covers of the August issue of Vogue Japan and Time earlier this month. (Kelly left out that Osaka also graced the cover of Vogue Hong Kong this month.)
Kelly's attack was quickly condemned on Twitter, including a reprimand from the four-time Grand Slam winner herself.
According to screenshots of a now-deleted tweet, Osaka reminded the former cable news host to "do better". She also pointed out that she shot all of her covers in the past year - months before she announced in May that she would not be making any press appearances at this year's French Open.
"Since you are a journalist, I would have assumed that you would take the time to research what the lead times for magazines are. If you had, you would have found out that I photographed all of my front pages last year," said the tennis player star allegedly tweeted. "Instead, your first reaction is to get in here and spit negativity, you better do it Megan."
Kelly seemed to be bothering reactions to her comments and later revealed that Osaka had blocked her on Twitter. "Poor [Naomi Osaka] blocked me when she shot me (I guess she's just tough on the pitch)," she tweeted.
Many people came to Osaka's defense and accused the 50-year-old of bullying the 23-year-old athlete.
Osaka has spoken openly about their struggles with mental health. In May, she posted a statement on Instagram saying she had "suffered long periods of depression" since the 2018 US Open.
“Mocking Megyn for someone who dared publicly admit that she was struggling with mental illness is a dangerous game and can harm a myriad of others you will never know. Please stop this, ”wrote USA Today columnist Connie Schultz.
Others stepped in to beat up Kelly for her relentless attacks:
People on Twitter also urged Kelly to fixate on Osaka, the Haitian and Japanese, blaming the former Fox News host for her story of racist comments.
Kelly, who joined NBC News in 2017 after leaving Fox News, was fired from NBC in 2018 after defending the use of blackface in Halloween costumes during a section of her show "Megyn Kelly Today".
Kelly also instigated a Twitter argument over the weekend with Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and creator of the "1619 Project," Nikole Hannah-Jones, leading Twitter users to exclaim Kelly's attacks on high-profile black women.
“Your obsession with successful black women is strange but not surprising. I hope you find a job soon, ”tweeted author Roxane Gay.
Others participated:
Osaka, meanwhile, celebrated her Sports Illustrated cover on Instagram on Monday, writing that she will be the first Haitian and Japanese to cover the swimsuit issue of the magazine, due out in August.
