Melania Trump Posts Juneteenth Tweet And Gets Reminded Of 'Birther' Past

Melania Trump tried to honor Friday June 19 by reading a children's book about the holidays - but was accused of not reading the room.
The first lady went to Twitter to read Angela Johnson's "All Different Now", which tells the story of Juneteenth, a day celebrating the end of slavery, through the eyes of a young girl.
In the tweet, Trump also remembered a trip to Ghana, where she visited the House of Slaves, a place where millions of kidnapped Africans were detained before being forced on slave ships to go to the New World.

@ FLOTUS
Today we celebrate June 19, the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States. In honor of today I would like to share the story "All Different Now" by Angela Johnson, which sheds light on the first June of the 19th century, the eyes of a young girl.

Many Twitter users found the first lady's video to be insensitive for a number of reasons, primarily because she had previously supported the racist conspiracy theory "birther" advocated by her husband, President Donald Trump, which the former president incorrectly claimed Barack Obama was not born in the United States

Ok, obstetrician. We believe in your sincerity. We know that you weren't really dealing with the conspiracy theories of racial birthright.

Would that have been "everything different" now? "Slavery" ended. But Jim Crow, Black Codes, Lynchings, the KKK, disenfranchisement, gerrymandering, white domination, discriminatory hiring practices, racial profiling, inferior education and BIRTHERISM followed ... 3rd lady.

Others focused on the visual details of the video - especially the decision to sit the First Lady on a gold-plated bench in an ornate room and film her from a distance.

A great way to send a message of equality, humanity, and togetherness is a wide-angle shot that overwhelms the only person in ridiculously opulent furniture
