Meryl Streep Calls a Bucolic Thousand Oaks Estate Home in ‘It’s Complicated’
Nancy Meyers offers good movie real estate - perhaps better than any other producer in the industry. Every house in her films is more dreamy than the last, from the Banks house in “Father of the Bride” to Iris' (Kate Winslet) cottage in “The Holiday” to Jane Adler's (Meryl Streep) Spanish bungalow in “It's Complicated”. “The latter, a charming one-story red-roofed property, is for sure one of the most popular properties in film history. The gated residence is believed to be located in the 2009 Comedy at 1220 La Cima Road in Santa Barbara and is at the end of a long, winding driveway on 714 W. Potrero Rd. In the Hidden Valley neighborhood of Thousand Oaks.
Only the exterior of the sprawling property, which spans an incredible 57 hectares and serves as an equestrian ranch in real life, was featured in It's Complicated. Unfortunately, the interior of Jane's Pad (so warm, quaint, and inviting it had the power to win over even the most staunch minimalists!) Was nothing more than a set built on a soundstage on Broadway Stages in Brooklyn. When the apartment hit the market in 2012 (for a cool $ 12 million), It's Complicated fans were thrilled to finally get a glimpse of the actual interior through MLS images.

The interior of the residence, while barer than its on-screen counterpart with a much less jealous kitchen, is impressive nonetheless. With wood beam ceilings, Spanish tile floors and large windows, the apartment looks charming and cozy, even without the touch of a set designer.
According to a 1975 newspaper listing, the ranch was designed by legendary star architect Paul Revere Williams. Built in the late 1920s, the property consists of five bedrooms and six bathrooms over 6,100 square meters. Outside on the wide area there is a detached guest house, pool, pool house and barn with 6 stalls.
According to the 2012 property listing, the property was previously "owned by celebrities" and rumors have long circulated on the internet that anyone from W.C. Fields to Roy Rogers to Richard Widmark to Donna Summer have called the place home. Whether these rumors are actually founded is unclear, but even without a prominent pedigree, the property, which finally sold for $ 10.5 million in 2015, is unique!
