Michigan football gets commitment from Grosse Pointe South 5-star CB Will Johnson
Michigan football just made a big win on the recruiting path.
Big punchline South cornerback Will Johnson signed up for the Wolverines on Sunday. Johnson, a member of the 2022 Recruitment Class, is a five-star prospect and ranks 11th overall on the 247Sports Composite rankings. He is the top ranked prospect in the state of Michigan.
Johnson chose Michigan over Ohio State and USC. Among other things, he reported on offers from Alabama, LSU and Notre Dame.

Grosse Pointe South recipient Will Johnson will face Macomb Dakota in the first half at Grosse Pointe South High School on Friday October 2, 2020.
Johnson, listed at 6 feet 3, 190 pounds, has been a high profile recruit for years. He is the son of Deon Johnson, who was the cornerback of the All-State Dream Team at Detroit King and played in Michigan from 1990 to 1994.
Based on his ranking, Johnson would be the sixth highest prospect to sign with Michigan in the era of modern recruitment rankings, according to the 247Sports database. He would also be the first high-level recruit in the state to select the Wolverines since the 2018 cycle.
Grosse Pointe South recipient Will Johnson will be defended by Eric Reese of Macomb Dakota at Grosse Pointe South High School on Friday October 2, 2020.
"Great and still growing," wrote Allen Trieu, an analyst at 247Sports. "Has length but is also filled in and looks like a prototype full-back. Good athlete who excels on the basketball court and has shown great ball skills on the soccer field. Has the size and the ability to defend larger outside receivers." Has good technique. Smooth back pedal and transition. Smart about zone coverage.
"Hasn't had time at an event or on track so the verified speed is currently a question mark. There is a possibility that he will outgrow the cornerback as he gets bigger and bigger will be an Impact College player and a good one Have a chance to make a higher choice. "
Johnson is the sixth candidate for Michigan's 2022 class, along with four-star athlete Taylor Groves, four-star athlete Kody Jones, three-star tight-end Marlin Klein, three-star defender Davonte Miles (River Rouge) and the three-star athlete attacked Connor Jones.
