Miley Cyrus is six months sober—and she's speaking out about the judgment she feels

Miley Cyrus has always been honest about her relationship with drugs and alcohol. Do you remember the 2017 Jimmy Fallon interview when Cyrus said she was "always very stoned"? The singer used to be a big proponent of marijuana, but it sounds like she's trying to leave those days behind. In an interview with Variety, Cyrus spoke about the surgery that made her sober and revealed that she had been sober for the past six months - but it wasn't without challenges.
At the end of last year, Cyrus underwent intensive vocal cord surgery, which prompted her to become sober so that she could concentrate on her voice and music. "It was really important to me to have a sober lifestyle last year because I really wanted to polish my craft," she said to Variety.
When journalist Marc Malkin asked Cyrus to go into the "sober lifestyle" she was referring to, the singer set a precise schedule for her sobriety.
"I've been sober and sober for six months," said Cyrus.
"In the beginning it was just about this vocal surgery," she said, but added that it was a process to deepen yourself and your family history, to see sobriety as more than that: "I have done a lot of family history, that has many Problems with addiction and mental health, ”she said.
"So just go through that and ask," Why am I the way I am? "Cyrus continued." If we understand the past, we understand the present and the future much more clearly. I think the therapy is great. "
Though she appears to be happy with her new lifestyle, Cyrus, at 27, no less in Hollywood, felt the challenges of people's perception of sobriety.
"It is really difficult because especially when you are young there is the stigma" you are not fun ". It is like" darling, you can call me many things, but I know that I am fun. "
"What I love about it is waking up 100%, 100% of the time," Cyrus continued. "I don't want to wake up dazed. I want to wake up and feel ready."
Cyrus has been particularly vulnerable to mental health in recent months when she debuted her Instagram live show Bright Minded. Her vulnerability to addiction, substance abuse, and mental health is refreshing - and for the record: we would never say that Miley doesn't seem to be having fun.
