Surprise! Mindy Kaling welcomed another bundle of joy.
During an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Thursday, the 41-year-old star announced that she welcomed her second child, a young boy, last month.
"This is the first time I'm telling you, it feels so strange. But I gave birth to a baby boy on September 3rd," Kaling told the late-night host.
"Nobody knew you were pregnant!" Said Colbert.
"I know! I know! This is news to a lot of people," said the actress. "It's true."
After Colbert asked what her son was called, Kaling announced that "his name is Spencer".
Kaling is also the mother of 2½ year old daughter Katherine. Katherine's birth in December 2017 was also a little surprise for the fans. (She has decided not to reveal her father's identity.)

Kaling's passion for being a multi-dash mom and single parent is heavily influenced by her late mother, Swati, who died of pancreatic cancer in 2012. (Katherine's middle name Swati is in honor of her late grandmother.)
"I always knew that I wanted to be a mother, but I would have put it off and put it off. I'm glad it happened when it happened," she told Glamor in June 2019. "I would have postponed it indefinitely." I've seen firsthand the heartache of women who've been waiting to get pregnant [and then it doesn't happen]. For me, my relationship with my mother was such an integral part of my life. Thinking back to our relationship is still I am so grateful to have Katherine. "
Kaling previously said she sought inspiration for her parenting style from her own mother. "My mother was incredibly wild and so devoted to us, just loved us and really wanted us to be happy no matter what we did. My career choice wasn't something she was familiar with and she just supported it. And when I did could give that to my child, just the open-mindedness, I would be so happy, "she said in August 2017.

In addition to raising a newborn, her daughter Katherine kept her busy at home.
"My kid was supposed to start preschool this year. And we were so excited. She wanted to go to this school that I love," Kaling recently told PEOPLE about adapting to self-quarantine with her toddler. "Now the writers' rooms are filling up for two of my shows on Zoom as I guide my kid through the one-day preschool. I'm so happy because I have help. I'm home all the time, and I don't want to every night Takeout. I have to be a full time single parent who has to make the money for this household. So it was a challenge. "
Even so, the extra family time was a positive result. "A lot of things that I thought would drive me crazy if I was with a 2 year old for seven months really bonded us very closely," she said.
The former star of The Office and The Mindy Project has written two memoirs and published a third, Nothing Like I Imagined (Except Sometimes), a digital collection available on Amazon Original Stories. She also created the acclaimed Netflix series Never Have I Ever and is currently writing for several upcoming projects, including Legally Blonde 3.
