Mom celebrates son coming out as transgender with sweet photo shoot
A mother from Kentucky honors her son, who comes out transgender, with a photo shoot on the subject of "It's a Boy" on his 20th birthday.
Heather Green of Louisville shared pictures of her family celebrating their oldest child, Adrian Brown, 20, along with a message backing his announcement. The post quickly garnered more than 20,000 likes and 15,000 shares on Facebook.
"Now 23,000 people have seen it - so 23,000 people know I'm trans, which is a little scary but exciting," Adrian told Good Morning America. "I made some great friends along the way through this post."

In September, Adrian, a student at the University of Louisville, came out to see his mother and brother Lucas, 17.
Adrian was assigned the female gender at birth. He now identifies as male.
Transgender is a term that GLAAD uses to describe a person whose gender identity is different from the gender they were assigned at birth.
"Gender identity is the internal, personal feeling of a person, a man or a woman (or a boy or a girl)," says the GLAAD website. "For some people, their gender identity doesn't exactly fit into those two choices. For transgender people, the gender they were assigned at birth and their own internal gender identity don't match."

"All the things we go through as parents - when they bring home a good report card or star in a musical, but they couldn't think of anything to say or do when your child tells you they are switch. "Green said," GMA. "
She continued, "I didn't know how to react and I told him so, but it was something we wanted to work through and I would support him all the way."
Last week Adrian posed in a gender reveal style photoshoot that his mother came up with. He popped blue balloons and held the "It's a boy" signs. Green even wore an artificial baby bump to indicate she was having another son.

"If your child comes out as a trans, the best thing to do is to create a photo shoot to celebrate the fact that they silently and bravely stepped out of the race they never wanted to be in, found their own lead and won. HAPPY 20th BIRTHDAY, Adrian! "Green wrote on Facebook.
"It was a good time and I felt really great to have such a great family who would be so supportive," said Adrian, adding that he has a message for others who are struggling to get out.

"It will probably be a little awful telling someone for the first time," he said. "But even if they don't accept, there is a community out there that will love and accept you. It will be fine."
