Mom shares what it was like taking her toddler on a 22-hour flight

This TikTok parent shared how she got her toddler through a 22-hour flight with minimal tantrums!
Kristy (@dkristysommer) is a parenting and parenting podcaster with a PhD in child development. Kristy shares lots of useful parenting advice on TikTok, along with cute videos of her daughter. In a recent video, Kristy shared a play-by-play of her daughter's first flight - which happened to be a whopping 22 hours! The mother also shared her tips for getting her toddler through the arduous flight with minimal tantrums.
The video begins with a shot of the toddler sitting in the window seat of an airplane with a green blanket wrapped around her lap as she watches television. "I took my toddler for 22 hours on her first flight," explains Kristy in an off-screen comment. "That's how it went."

"We got to the airport 5 hours early," Kristy recalls, sharing footage of herself and her toddler strolling through the airport, dragging suitcases.
"We went through customs, we waited in a lounge, [and] she decided to do a sensory activity," says Kristy, showing her toddler how to pour juice from one glass to another.
“Our first flight was from Brisbane to Dubai. It's about 14 hours," explains Kristy. "She hangs out and looks at the inflight entertainment system for a second. Note that we haven't even left the ground before she switches to her iPad."
Watch this boring Brooklyn bedroom become a mid-century modern haven in just one day:
Kristy shows her toddler how to watch TV on her iPad, then explains that the toddler fell asleep shortly after, exhausted. The toddler slept for about 6 hours then woke up, ate some snacks and worked on some arts and crafts activities.
The toddler moves from activity to activity and quickly tires of each one. Luckily, Kristy has a lot prepared for her toddler. While making Cheerio necklaces and playing with toy cars were temporary distractions, Kristy recalls Play-Doh being a hit. "It took forever," she says. "It's probably the best thing we took on this flight, other than the snack pack."
Finally, the first leg of the journey is over and the toddler and his mother are boarding a new plane flying from Dubai to Glasgow. On the second flight, the toddler will nap for a few hours and then play with a sensory toy.
When the toddler gets restless, the creative mum builds a small fortress for her out of a blanket. "It was great," Kristy recalls.
Eventually the family arrives in Glasgow. "She really surprised me because she had very few tantrums throughout the trip," Kristy says at the end of the video.
TikTokers applauded mom for being prepared for flight!
"Wow, come on little lady! She did better than most adults," wrote one viewer.
"On a 22-hour flight, I would have thrown a dozen tantrums. I'm 42," joked another TikToker.
"You guys did great!" wrote another viewer.
While long journeys can be exhausting for toddlers, bringing along plenty of snacks and activities is a great way to ensure everything goes as smoothly as possible!
