Most illegal migrants, 77%, try to evade capture and don’t want asylum

The majority of single adults trying to cross the US-Mexico border do not want asylum and instead want to sneak in undetected, the latest sign that the illegal immigration crisis has reached a catastrophic stage.
In the El Paso sector alone, US Customs and Border Protection said 77% of illegal immigrants are trying to evade capture - and the numbers are shocking and "historic".
"More than 77% of the primary arrested population are single adults trying to avoid arrest and NOT apply for asylum," the agency said emphatically. "104,208 single adults were encountered so far in FY21, compared to a total of 39,006 single adults found in the El Paso Sector in FY20," she added.
The sector accounts for almost a sixth of encounters with illegal immigrants along the south-western border. It is the sector that Vice President Kamala Harris visited on her only trip to the border as President Joe Biden's immigration tsar.
Border officials have seen a staggering number of illegal immigrants since Biden took office, signaling that the restrictions imposed by former President Donald Trump will be lifted and the border opened.
The agency said that in the El Paso sector alone, "encounters" with illegal immigrants rose 288% this fiscal year.
They have also been involved in far more drug rescues and seizures.
“Currently, agents from the El Paso Sector have arrested a total of 1,815 people in 195 warehouses. Agents have also thwarted human smuggling programs in this FY 920 alone, "the agency said in a press release.
El Paso Sector Narcotics Totals for the year include:
• Over 5,000 pounds of marijuana.
• Over 600 pounds of methamphetamine.
• Over 300 pounds of cocaine.
• More than 40 pounds of fentanyl.
• Over 30 pounds of heroin.
