Motorist returns to scene of hit-and-run, strikes officer with her vehicle, NC cops say

A disabled driver returned to the scene of the accident on Tuesday, only to make matters worse by driving into investigators and "dragging them down the street," Fayetteville police said.
The unidentified officer was hospitalized with multiple injuries, none of which are life-threatening, police said in a statement.
"Another victim was caught in the perpetrator's vehicle before the police arrived," officials said. "The elderly female victim suffered minor injuries."
Investigators identified the driver as Chante Roshell Oates, 24, and said she faces a range of charges, including assault with a fatal weapon.
The incident happened shortly after 8 p.m. Tuesday in a residential neighborhood on the west side of Fayetteville about 60 miles south of Uptown Raleigh.
"Officials were dispatched to a reported accident in which a vehicle collided with a residential building along 800 (block) of Beuer Drive," said the police.
“The suspicious vehicle returned while the officers were investigating. When the officer confronted the suspect, the officer was hit by the vehicle and dragged down the street. "
The driver then left the scene, the officials said. A search for the vehicle eventually resulted in a police chase that ended about 12 miles east in downtown Fayetteville, officials said.
Oates, who lives in the same block where the incident took place, was charged with "Assaulting a government official with a lethal weapon, assaulting a law enforcement officer, assaulting a serious body (two points), assaulting a deadly weapon that opposes an officer ; Injuries to personal property, driving while disabled and crimes fleeing to avoid arrest, ”officials said.
She was detained at the Cumberland County Detention Center on Wednesday with a $ 153,500 secured bond, officials said.
