Multiple Sixers discuss how Ben Simmons has looked 2 days in practice
The Philadelphia 76ers are still trapped in the saga with 25-year-old 3-time all-star Ben Simmons as the team moves forward in this situation. The Sixers tried to get him back on the team after all the drama out of the field surrounding his trade request.
After clearing the NBA's COVID log, Simmons has now officially joined the team. He has now trained with everyone for two days in a row and will try to get back on the team and keep moving forward.
Some may think that the atmosphere around the team would be uncomfortable when he got back on the ground. The Sixers are a team that needs the chemistry to move forward, but Simmons' presence hasn't changed much in terms of the mood in the group.
“He showed up. He practiced it, ”said newcomer Georges Niang. “We welcomed him and it really is. I don't think anything has really changed. Of course he's part of that team and we're happy to have him here now. I don't think anyone has really changed. The mood is still very high and we are still very much looking forward to moving forward this season and fighting for a championship. "
While Simmons missed a couple of weeks due to his trade request, it's not like he's a new addition. He's been in Philadelphia throughout his career to understand who he's playing with and how coach Doc Rivers wants to run things.
"It was good," said veteran Danny Green. “Things went as usual. It's the usual ... It's different to see a new face. We get a new teammate. We have a new face and a guy we haven't seen in a long time, that's the only difference. "
In terms of his preparations to play against the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday's opening night, Rivers is not ready to commit yet.
"I have no idea," he explained. “To be honest, I haven't thought much about it. When the time comes, I'll make the decision, but I'll just wait and see. The mood was so good and we will just keep going. "
On the flip side, Rivers admitted that Simmons made good progress in training on Tuesday.
"Yes, he must have played more today," he added. "We just take our time and keep building."
At the end of the day everyone knows how talented Simmons is and the team understands that with him they are a better team to be successful.
“He was great,” said Tyrese Maxey. “It's Ben Simmons. We know what he's doing. He's really good at what he does and it's great to have him back. "
