STORY: Elon Musk says Twitter user signups are at an "all-time high" as he continues to grapple with the mass exodus of advertisers from the site...
...and users fleeing to other platforms over concerns about verification and hate speech.
Posting on his own Twitter account, the chief executive said that in the seven days ended Nov. 16, an average of over two million signed up per day -- a 66% increase from the same week a year ago.
He also said the site could have over a billion monthly users in 12 to 18 months.
Impressions of hate speech declined on Nov. 13 compared to October 2021, he says, and active user minutes — the time people interact with Twitter — were also at a record high.
Musk has previously said that Twitter is suffering a "massive drop in revenue" from advertiser withdrawals, which he attributes to activist groups. Hundreds of employees are believed to have resigned, adding to his laying off of half the company in November.
Musk's latest comments come days after the company announced the upcoming launch of verified gold and gray ticks for governments and businesses.
