According to police, who originally responded to a gunshot that was fired around 5:30 a.m., the recreational vehicle arrived on the street at 1:22 a.m. It was parked in front of an AT&T broadcast building at 166 2nd Avenue North and when police discovered it was playing a recorded message a few hours later that a bomb was about to explode in 15 minutes.
At that point, the officers asked the department's hazardous equipment division for assistance and began evacuating the area.
At 6:30 a.m. CT, the vehicle exploded. "We believe that this was a deliberate act," said police spokesman Don Aaron during a press conference on Friday. "The infrastructure there on 2nd Avenue North was severely damaged."
