National Cathedral mourns 600,000 Americans lost to COVID

The official death toll 15 months into the pandemic is approaching 600,000, despite a national vaccination program successfully reducing the rate of daily infections and deaths.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the total death toll in the United States was 595,625. The World Health Organization (WHO) puts the international number at 3,758,560.
The bells on the National Cathedral were last rung on December 15, 2020 for COVID-19 victims when the number hit 300,000.
