NBA Twitter reacts to Andrew Wiggins' rough game in Warriors' opener
NBA Twitter responds to Wiggins' rough performance in the opener, which originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea
With Klay Thompson expected to miss the entire 2020-21 NBA season, the Warriors are counting on Andrew Wiggins to rise as the second goalscorer behind Steph Curry.
But if the first game of the season is a sign of that, it could ask a lot from the earlier # 1 overall draft.
In the Warriors' season opener against Kevin Durant and the Brooklyn Nets at the Barclays Center on Tuesday night, Wiggins started with a 2:10 half-time and finished the first 24 minutes of the game with just five points. The second half was just a little better.
Wiggins missed wide open shots and looked lost by the time the warriors were blown from the nets.
The 25-year-old finished 4 out of 16 from the field with 13 points and 2 out of 6 from 3 point range. He gave an assist, grabbed two rebounds and made four turnovers and was minus 28 in 31 minutes
Warriors fans and NBA fans alike reacted harshly on Twitter to Wiggins' bad game.
Wiggins definitely needs to improve if the Warriors are to compete against each other this season. He has the pedigree and the potential to be a star, but the start of his seventh season in the NBA shows that he still has a long way to go to peak performance.
