NBC quickly hires Maria Taylor after her departure from ESPN

Maria Taylor joined NBC less than a week after her contract with ESPN expired.
NBC will officially make the announcement during its prime-time Olympic show on Friday, before the opening ceremony is repeated.
Taylor had been with ESPN since 2014 but her contract expired on Tuesday. Her last assignment for the network was Tuesday night at the NBA Finals, where she was the pre- and post-game host for the network's "NBA Countdown" show.
ESPN and Taylor announced on Wednesday that they cannot agree on a new contract. Your first assignment for NBC will be the Tokyo Olympics.
Taylor had hosted NBA Countdown since 2019 and was a reporter for College GameDay and ABC Saturday Night Football since 2017.
ESPN had been discussing a deal with Taylor for over a year, but things reached a boiling point last month. Taylor turned down overtime last year and the two teams were wide apart to go to the NBA finals. Then came a report in the New York Times with detailed comments her colleague Rachel Nichols made of Taylor during the NBA restart in Florida last year.
Nichols, who is white, was introduced to host the NBA Finals in September 2019, but the network later decided to promote Taylor the black.
Nichols said in an accidentally taped phone call the Times received: “I wish Maria Taylor all the success in the world - she covers football, she covers basketball. If you have to give her more to do because you are feeling pressure because of your shitty long-term record in terms of diversity - which, by the way, I know personally from the female side - then do it. Just find it somewhere else. You won't find it from me or take my thing away from me. "
Nichols apologized while hosting "The Jump" on July 5th. She was supposed to be the sideline reporter for the finals, but was withdrawn from the task.
