Nebraska governor sending state troopers to southern border to meet Abbott request
Nebraska will send state soldiers to the U.S.-Mexico border to help Texas law enforcement respond to the high levels of illegal immigration, the governor announced this weekend.
"Nebraska is stepping up Texas to respond to the ongoing crisis on the border with Mexico," Governor Pete Ricketts said in a statement. “The disastrous policies of the Biden Harris administration created an immigration crisis on the border. While the federal government has failed in its response, Nebraska is excited to assist Texas to protect its communities and keep people safe.
More than two dozen officers from the Nebraska State Patrol will travel approximately 900 miles south to Del Rio, Texas later this month to assist the Texas Department of Public Safety for an estimated 16 days, Ricketts said.
The move comes a little over a week after the Republican governments. Greg Abbott from Texas and Doug Ducey from Arizona asked the other 48 governors to consider sending their police force to help the overwhelmed local and federal authorities.

“With the overwhelming number of violations currently occurring in Texas and Arizona, additional labor is needed from every state that can spare it. With your help, we can arrest more of these state and federal criminals before they can cause problems in your state, ”the governors wrote in a letter released earlier this month, highlighting the threats posed by drug smugglers and illegal immigrants with criminals Stories.
Abbott and Ducey said extra-state law enforcement officials, as well as their own, will have broader police forces and will be able to arrest non-nationals who cross the border for trespassing and people smuggling. Usually only federal agencies like the Border Patrol can arrest people for immigration crimes, but the two governors expanded the detention authorities by declaring a disaster and an emergency.
