Neil deGrasse Tyson claims Steven Spielberg told him E.T. is actually a plant

On Thursday's Late Show With Stephen Colbert, Cobert couldn't believe what he was hearing as astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson dropped a little-known tidbit about him: E.T. is not an animal but a sentient plant, similar to Groot from Guardians of the Galaxy.
"By the way," said deGrasse Tyson, "did you know E.T. was a sentient plant, not an animal?" "E.T. is a plant?” Colbert answered. "Turn on your heart. He's got a heart." "Well, okay," deGrasse Tyson replied, "so they gave him a heart just for you to relate to. But it was a plant.”
Though Colbert hit back, deGrasse Tyson claimed to have heard it firsthand from the one person who knew more about E.T. would know. than almost anyone else on the planet.
"How do you know it's a plant?" asked Colbert. "Do you remember that E.T. touched the plants and they grew back?” deGrasse Tyson responded. "It's not an accident." When asked how he knew, deGrasse Tyson replied, "Steven Spielberg told me in my office."
