New Acura Integra teased, and it looks good
We expected a number of big announcements and debuts this week, like the two-row Jeep Grand Cherokee and Rolls-Royce's "historic" electrification announcement, both of which are coming tomorrow. What we didn't expect was that Acura would shock us again with another Integra tease. Honda's luxury arm posted a seven-second clip on Twitter that flashed the back three-quarters of the new Integra. That tweet included a link to a landing page on Acura's website with the image you see above.
Although the ILX shares the same design language, the switch to a hatch gives us the Hyundai Genesis coupe vibes of the late model. That's not a thing about the Integra, and we have faith in what's to come.
Aside from realizing that the teased Integra hatchback has a completely different closing line than the 2022 Honda Civic hatchback, the only information we have about the car came in the caption above the picture: “Integra is returning in 2022. The fifth generation Integra will be a premium “sport compact with a distinctive five-door design. More details on the brand new Integra will be available shortly before its launch in 2022. "We already knew most of this from the first teaser published in August. The only new addition to our knowledge is the word" sport ".
This is a fertile time for reborn nameplates, though not every attempt has stalled - facing you, the Acura NSX, and the Lamborghini Countach. When the Autoblog staff came up with ideas for a new Integra, the author liked Road Test Editor and Integra owner Zac Palmer's desire for "a small, affordable car for the enthusiast" that Acura hadn't had in a while. A comment from a commenter on this line suggested, "The first generation TSX could probably be considered that car." The first generation TSX was something special and offered a manual transmission. We'd love to see a return to the original Integra and TSX philosophy with modern underpinnings.
Whatever we get, we hope Acura makes it this time. It can't be that difficult to recreate a legendary name tag that has lasted 21 years and still forces longing and horniness, right? Until the next digital clue is sent, we will again pretend that we are not waiting for a surprise from Japan.
