NHL rumors: Bruins have 'held firm' with this contract offer to Torey Krug
Report: Bruins have "held on" to Torey Krug with this deal that originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston
The NHL Free Agency officially began at 12:00 PM ET on Friday. One of the best players available is Boston Bruins defender Torey Krug.
Krug is a 29 year old veteran with extensive playoff experience, strong leadership and impressive offensive skills. He is also the second-greatest defender in the 2020 free agent class, behind St. Louis Blues captain Alex Pietrangelo.

Where are the Bruins and Krug with the market now open?
Here's what TSN insider Frank Seravalli said in his network's free agency early Friday afternoon:
"I was told the Bruins held on to Torey Krug's camp all night with their last offer - six years and $ 6.5 million (per season)," Seravalli explained. "Both sides left the door open for him to come back when he hits the market today and decide that what he sees out there isn't exactly what he expected."
Ranking of the top 20 NHL free agents this off-season
Replacing a player of Krug's caliber would not be easy for the Bruins. Nobody in the organization, neither at the NHL level nor in the prospect pool, is in a position to take on Krug's top four role. If the Bruins are to be a top Stanley Cup contender next season, they would have to fill Krug's shoes by making an acquisition in the free agency or in the commercial market.
One option that is now off the table is Oliver Ekman-Larsson. The defense attorney for the Arizona Coyotes defense attorney announced Friday before the free agency for a deal with the Bruins or Vancouver Canucks. The deadline expired without an agreement, and the Ekman-Larsson agent told Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman that his customer was "staying" in Arizona.
Krug isn't the only free agent situation the Bruins will have to resolve in the days and weeks ahead. Left winger Jake DeBrusk (RFA) and defenders Zdeno Chara (UFA) and Matt Grzelcyk (RFA) are the other notable free agents for Boston.
