'No Comment:' Jalen Ramsey mum about fight with Giants' Tate
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (AP) - Whatever happened before, during, and after the battle between Los Angeles Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey and New York Giants wide receiver Golden Tate, neither says either.
Ramsey declined to comment when speaking to reporters on Friday, his first media availability after the Rams' 17-9 win on Sunday.
"We're going to talk about football, man," Ramsey said during a video conference call. "Everyone's answered it somehow and I keep telling you 'no comment' so I don't get lost. We're talking about football. We have the Washington Football team this week and that's honestly important."
Ramsey took essentially the same approach as Tate in his first interview on Thursday, continuing the ambiguity about what had led to the fight and what had happened when they faced each other. The Fox broadcast only showed the aftermath when teammates, coaches, and staff tried to separate the two men after exchanging punches and landing on the lawn at the SoFi stadium. Rams and Giants players who spoke immediately after the game did not provide details.
Tate and Ramsey exchanged words repeatedly throughout the game, with Ramsey tackling Tate hard during a key stop in the fourth quarter of the first field meeting since their feud began.
"I don't want to step down and argue about it because I don't think it will help us come back to it this week," Tate said Thursday.
Ramsey said he doesn't expect to be disciplined by the NFL. He and Tate could be fined or suspended for their involvement in the fight, but the league has not yet announced a decision. Rams manager Sean McVay said Ramsey would not be punished by the team, and Giants manager Joe Judge said the same thing about Tate.
The long simmering argument revolves around the relationship between Ramsey and Breanna Tate, mother of Ramsey's two young children and Golden Tate's sister. Ramsey and Breanna Tate split up last year.
Golden Tate condemned Ramsey for ending the relationship on social media, but he didn't comment on the situation prior to playing the Rams. Ramsey didn't speak to reporters last week.
Now, Ramsey insists that his focus is on helping Los Angeles stay undefeated against NFC East this season.
"We'll keep doing it week after week, working hard and focusing game after game on what we can control," said Ramsey, who signed a five-year contract for $ 105 million in September.
