Oil Heiress Aileen Getty Adds All-New Contemporary Mansion to Her Portfolio

Aileen Getty, granddaughter of larger-than-life tycoon J. Paul Getty - once the richest man in the world - has added another gem to her already much feathered real estate cap. Real estate records show the oiler recently spent $ 3.8 million on a chic, contemporary home in Studio City.
Of course, Getty is no stranger to the high-end real estate columns and beyond. The rebellious teen turned HIV-positive addict and turned benevolent philanthropist has picked up top-notch pieces of LA property in recent years. Last year she knocked out a bevy of other bidders to buy Maroon 5 guitarist James Valentine's stunning Los Feliz Midcentury Modern for $ 4.1 million - $ 315,000 more than the asking price. Their latest acquisition, completely new and strikingly shiny, is on a quiet street in the coveted Studio City neighborhood. It has five bedrooms and six bathrooms on a living space of around 500 square meters and includes all the cutting-edge smart home wizardry available to mankind.
While few will mistake it for a modern mid-century, the house's enchanting glass walls undoubtedly exude the stylistic echoes of the 1960s. The silhouette of the structure is box-shaped, and the outer walls are completely covered with smooth, neutral-toned stucco. The black accent and wood-paneled garage and front door add a warm splash of color, while a series of floating platform concrete stairs lead guests from the driveway to the entrance.
The interiors follow an airy, open floor plan and include snow-white walls, recessed lighting, and Italian ceramic tiles that run the length of the space. The formal living area is extraordinarily spacious and bathed in natural light. The cave is flanked on either side by a series of floor-to-ceiling glass windows that can be made opaque if necessary, and a large sliding pocket door that looks out into the back yard.
The kitchen and formal dining area share a large space. The former building has elegant, all-white German cabinets that contrast nicely with the ceramic and wood-paneled walls. Of course, there are all the usual high-end appliances, plus a wine cooler and an interesting mix of ceramic and wood countertops. On the opposite side of the room is the formal dining area, characterized by a linear chandelier and a round neon artwork. The dining area also has direct access to the pool and terrace area via a Fleetwood glass door.
A floating staircase leads to the upper level, where there is an office, a master suite and additional family rooms. All bedrooms have cozy oak floors, while the Mod Master Suite adds the style factor with narrow, floor-to-ceiling windows and two basket pendulum lanterns in the bedroom, as well as an almost completely white bathroom with a large bathtub and steam shower. Of course, the obligatory walk-in closet has a gigantic dressing area, as is expected in a house of this size and caliber.
Outside, in the back yard, there's a dramatically sunken courtyard centered around a marble fire pit, while an old tree provides plenty of shade. Just beyond the courtyard is the property's long, rectangular pool, the perfect place to cool off before warming up and chatting with friends near the fire pit.
In addition to this Studio City and her mid-century Los Feliz purchase, Getty also owns a Malibu spread on exclusive Point Dume, which was purchased by clothing lifestyle designer James Perse for $ 13 million in 2016.
Peter Lorimer of PLG Estates kept the listing; Brett Lawyer of Hilton & Hyland repeated Getty.
