Olympics-Sprint queen Thompson-Herah blocked on Instagram over TV rights

TOKYO (Reuters) - Not even the fastest woman in the world can overtake the rights holders of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
The Jamaican sprinter defended her Olympic title at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro over the two distances in Tokyo, winning four Olympic gold medals in two games.
But her attempt to share her Tokyo competitions with her 310,000 followers on Instagram failed.
"I was banned from Instagram because I posted the races of the Olympic Games (sic) because I didn't have the right to do so. So see you in two days," the sprinter wrote on Twitter.
Thompson-Herah will compete in the women's 4 x 100 meter relay on Thursday and Jamaica should qualify for the final on Friday. She had won a silver medal with her teammates in Rio.
The International Olympic Committee said removing unauthorized content on social media is an automated process.
"Right Holding Broadcasters (RHBs) have exclusive rights to broadcast the Olympics," the IOC told Reuters.
"This also includes distribution on social media, where athletes are invited to share the content provided by the RHBs on their accounts, but cannot post competition content natively."
"If that happens, such content will be removed from social media platforms automatically."
The IOC will receive more than $ 4 billion in broadcast rights for the period including the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics and the Tokyo Games, much of which will go back to the Games and to supporting sports and athletes.
"The income from the sale of the broadcasting rights is an important component in financing the Olympic movement and helps to build the Olympic stage on which athletes can shine," it said.
"The IOC distributes more than 90 percent of its revenue to the broader sports movement, which means the equivalent of $ 3.4 million every day goes to athletes and sports organizations at all levels around the world."
