In the film, Washington plays Kern County's Deputy Sheriff Joe "Deke" Deacon, who is involved in the prosecution of a serial killer who is terrorizing the city of Los Angeles. Maleks L.A. Sheriff Dept. Sergeant Jim Baxter leads the investigation.
"You're not exactly a department favorite," says Malek at the beginning of the clip, speaking to Washington. "Things have probably changed a lot since you left."
"Do I still have to catch her, right?" Washington jokes back. "Then not so much has changed."
Leto enters history as the prime suspect of the two attorneys and shares a particularly tense and ultimately explosive interrogation scene with Malek and Washington. Although Leto's mysterious character seems to get out of hand as the clip progresses, the three acting heavyweights become more and more entangled in the case (and in each other) and the tension mounts as disturbing secrets emerge.
"It's the little things that tear you apart; It's the little things that get you," Washington said at the end of the trailer.
The main cast of the film is rounded off by Natalie Morales, Terry Kinney, Chris Bauer, Joris Jarsky, Isabel Arraiza and Michael Hyatt. "The Little Things" is being produced by Oscar-winner Mark Johnson (under his Gran Via Productions banner) and Hancock, with Mike Drake and Kevin McCormick as executive producers.
"The Little Things" will debut in theaters and will be streamed on January 29, 2021 via HBO Max.
