Steny Hoyer opened up about his time as a leader as he prepares to hand over the reins.
In an interview with the Washington Post, he bemoaned the "confrontational" nature of some Republicans in the chamber.

Outgoing Majority Leader of the Democratic House of Representatives Steny Hoyer, who has long maintained strong ties across all political channels, said in a recent interview that the "biggest change" he's noticing in the lower house is the more "confrontational" nature of Republicans .
Hoyer, a Marylander who has served in Congress since 1981, is often one of the first Democrats approached by senior Republicans to finalize deals on various legislation.
But in an interview with the Washington Post, Hoyer - who will step down from the leadership but remain in the House of Representatives in January - was remarkably candid about the toll partisanship is taking in a chamber where he always seeks to forge a bipartisan consensus .
"I think the biggest change in the institution is how confrontational Republicans have become," he told the paper.
Hoyer, who was the principal sponsor of the Americans With Disabilities Act in 1990, worked with then-GOP Rep. Steve Barrett of Texas and then-President George H.W. Bush to pass the comprehensive bill.
But after former GOP House Speakers John Boehner of Ohio and Paul Ryan of Wisconsin struggled to contain the most extreme elements of their party, governing became more difficult.
"This is the biggest change," said Hoyer, also referring to the events of January 6, 2021.
