Pentagon: Ukraines using rocket system to hit Russian command posts

Ukrainian forces are having "a lot of success" using a US-provided advanced missile system to attack Russian command posts, a senior US defense official said on Friday.
The Ukrainians have used the advanced High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) missile system to attack Kremlin positions in their battle for the country's eastern region known as Donbass.

"Because it is such a precise, longer-range system, the Ukrainians are able to carefully select targets that will undermine Russia's efforts more systematically, certainly than they could with shorter-range artillery systems," the official told reporters.
Ukraine's armed forces are still in the early stages of operating the HIMARS systems - of which the US has already deployed four to the former Soviet country and four more it pledged late last month - as only a handful of Ukrainian troops can operate them after a brief training course .
The HIMARS, which has a range of about 40 miles, has given the Ukrainians the ability to hit distant targets with greater accuracy than they were previously able to do with shorter-range artillery.
"What you're seeing is that the Ukrainians are actually systematically selecting targets and then hitting them accurately, providing this, you know, precise method of degrading Russian capabilities," the official said.
"I see that they can continue to use this throughout the Donbass."
