The responses were broadly in support of this alleged intern, along with some criticisms of HBO Max's public blame. And many people took the opportunity to share their own catastrophic and / or hilarious mishaps at work.
Dear intern,

I once put out a 1-900 sex hotline as a conference call for the Women's National Democratic Club, and the median membership age was about 78 years.

Shit happens.

Dear intern:

As a junior copywriter, I once applied for my dream job at @TheAtlantic and wrote “Copyrighter” on my résumé. I misspelled the job I wanted, which was a job for good spellers.

You're doing great, okay?

Dear intern,

In the first month of my new position at a major defense company, I sent an email about shirt orders that the department head and several company managers attended.

Title of the email: Your Shit is in the HR Office - Please Pick Up by COB

Dear intern,

I once accidentally uploaded a sexy picture I sent my boyfriend at the time to a shared file and a colleague uploaded it in a presentation in a conference room full of senior executives. On a 72-inch projection screen.

Integration test email is not a problem.

Dear intern, when I was 25, I created a PDF in which I assigned each employee to the Muppet they reminded me of the most. I wanted to send it to my work friend, but I accidentally sent it to the entire company. My boss (Beaker) wanted to fire me, but the owners (Bert & Ernie) intervened.

Dear Intern, I used my desktop calendar to note the start of my menstrual period every month, but after a few months I realized that I was writing this note on a calendar that I made available to all my colleagues across the company . I was 37 years old.

To top it off, Monica Lewinsky weighed in a few wise words for each intern caught in the crosshairs of the controversy, referring to common images of her wearing a beret in the 1990s, assuring that "it gets better".
Dear intern:

it gets better.

ps. don't wear a beret for a while, k?
