Pink's Battle With COVID Had Her Planning Her Last Goodbye to Her Kids
The thought that you won't be there to watch your children grow up is a parent's second worst nightmare (after fears for their own health, of course). And it's exactly the nightmare Pink faced in the spring of 2020 when both she and her then 3-year-old son Jameson tested positive for COVID-19. At the time, the 41-year-old was so afraid the two would not survive that she took legal action to make sure her daughter Willow and husband Carey Hart would be fine.
"It was really, really bad, and I've changed my mind," said Pink Mark Wright on his Heart Radio show. She was on the show to discuss her song "All I Know So Far" and how she wrote it for Willow after her COVID fight.

"I called my best friend and said, 'You just have to tell Willow how much I love her," she told Wright, adding that as a parent she was worried about how her daughter navigated the world without her The whole experience, she explained to Wright, inspired the new single.

The star covered a little bit about her COVID battle in an Instagram post last spring, but has since learned how dire the situation was for her and her son.
Pink said her COVID experience, which included persistent fever, was really scary and very bad, and she had thought about the legacy she left for her daughter Willow, who like Hart avoided dealing with the virus to infect.
“As a parent you think, 'What am I going to do for my child? What am I teaching them? Will they make it in this world? "She said to Wright." 'And what do I have to tell you when I get to say something to you for the last time?' "
Pink used her experience with the virus to advocate for those who are more prone to exposure and serious impacts due to income disparities or even poor infrastructure. In May 2020, she wrote an essay for Think, an offshoot of NBC News, about her experience and what she did to help others do the same. "The US is moving forward, but this virus knows no borders," she wrote. “And I think of the children and families around the world who are just starting to know its effects. Do they have what they need to be safe? Do they have what they need to be healthy? "
COVID was "the most physically and emotionally challenging experience". Pink said she went through as a mom. “But our story is not unique. There are mothers all over America and around the world facing the same insecurity every day, ”she wrote. “Not every family, especially those who live on reservations or in refugee camps, slums or favelas, can practice social distancing. In many parts of the world, access to water can take hours and even then soap can be an impossible luxury. "
While we hate to learn how much Pink feared for her and her son's life, we are glad to see that it inspired her to help others who may be in similar situations by working with UNICEF. Hopefully we will turn a corner with this virus and not many families will face this loss in the future.
